BTS (방탄소년단, Bangtan Sonyeondan, also known as the Bangtan Boys) is a South Korean boy band formed in Seoul in 2013 under Big Hit Entertainment (now HYBE). Comprising seven members - RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V (Kim Taehyung), and Jungkook - BTS became the most globally successful K-pop act in history. They broke numerous records on the Billboard charts, became the first Korean act to top the US Billboard Hot 100, and performed at the United Nations General Assembly in 2021.
BTS's success was built on a passionate global fanbase called 'ARMY' (Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth), strong social media engagement, and genuine artistic talent. Their music spans hip-hop, R&B, pop, and EDM, and their lyrics - Often addressing themes of youth, self-love, mental health, and social pressure - Resonated deeply with fans worldwide. Albums like 'Love Yourself: Tear,' 'Map of the Soul: Persona,' and 'BE' all debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. Their 2020 single 'Dynamite' made history as the first song by a Korean act to debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Members began fulfilling mandatory South Korean military service starting in 2022.
