Canada is the world's second-largest country by total area, spanning approximately 10 million square kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and northward to the Arctic. Canada is divided into 10 provinces and 3 territories. The provinces are Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia. The territories are Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut, which was carved out of the Northwest Territories in 1999 to become Canada's newest territory.

The Great Lakes (shared with the United States) are the world's largest group of freshwater lakes by total area. The St. Lawrence River is one of North America's most important waterways. Canada also has the world's longest coastline, stretching approximately 202,080 kilometers. Ottawa is the national capital, while Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, and Calgary are the largest cities.
