Cristina departed the show at the end of Season 10 to head a hospital in Geneva. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers), who began as the arrogant, selfish intern, grew into one of the show's most complex characters, specializing in pediatric surgery before leaving in Season 16 when Chambers left the show. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), initially the terrifying chief resident nicknamed "the Nazi," became one of the most beloved characters on television, eventually becoming Chief of Surgery.
