Disney Movies: Magic, Music, and Memorable Stories

Disney animated films have enchanted audiences for nearly a century, beginning with "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" (1937) - The first full-length animated feature in film history. Disney's early "Golden Age" produced beloved classics including "Pinocchio" (1940), "Dumbo" (1941), "Bambi" (1942), and "Cinderella" (1950). After a period of moderate success, Disney experienced a "Renaissance" beginning with "The Little Mermaid" (1989), which reinvigorated the studio's animation department and started a decade-long run of instant classics.

The Disney Renaissance (1989 - 1999) produced "The Little Mermaid," "Beauty and the Beast" (1991, the first animated film nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars), "Aladdin" (1992), "The Lion King" (1994), "Pocahontas" (1995), "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (1996), "Mulan" (1998), and "Tarzan" (1999). "The Lion King" remains one of the highest-grossing traditionally animated films ever. Try the main Disney Quiz for broader Disney knowledge, or test your animation knowledge with the Pixar Quiz.

Disney's acquisition of Pixar (2006), Marvel (2009), and Lucasfilm (2012) transformed it from an animation studio into the world's most powerful entertainment conglomerate. The 2010s saw Disney continue to dominate animation with "Frozen" (2013, whose song "Let It Go" became a global phenomenon), "Moana" (2016), and "Encanto" (2021). Disney's live-action remakes of animated classics - "The Lion King" (2019, $1.6 billion), "The Jungle Book" (2016), "Beauty and the Beast" (2017) - Have been enormously commercially successful, if critically divisive.
