Star Wars is one of the most successful and culturally impactful franchises in entertainment history. The story centers on the battle between the Galactic Empire (the forces of the dark side of the Force) and the Rebel Alliance, later the Resistance. Central characters include Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Darth Vader, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and Rey. The prequel trilogy (1999 - 2005) told the story of Anakin Skywalker's fall to the dark side and transformation into Darth Vader. The sequel trilogy (2015 - 2019) followed the next generation of heroes and villains. Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012 for $4 billion and has since greatly expanded the universe with shows like "The Mandalorian," "Andor," and "Obi-Wan Kenobi."
