Test your NFL knowledge - Teams, divisions, Super Bowl history, legendary players, and the history of American football.
The National Football League (NFL) is the most valuable sports league in the world, with a total franchise value exceeding $100 billion. It consists of 32 teams divided into two conferences (AFC and NFC), each with four divisions (North, South, East, West). The NFL regular season runs 17 weeks from September through January, followed by the playoffs and culminating in the Super Bowl - Usually held in early February and consistently the most-watched television event in the United States.
The league's history dates to 1920, when it was founded as the American Professional Football Association and renamed the NFL in 1922. Key moments include the "Greatest Game Ever Played" (the 1958 NFL Championship between the Baltimore Colts and New York Giants, which popularized professional football on television), Joe Namath's famous guarantee before Super Bowl III (which the New York Jets won), and "The Immaculate Reception" by Franco Harris in 1972. Team dynasties have defined NFL eras: the Pittsburgh Steelers won four Super Bowls in the 1970s; the San Francisco 49ers won five in the 1980s - 90s; and the New England Patriots won six under coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady (2001 - 2019). As of 2024, the Kansas City Chiefs under Patrick Mahomes are the dominant dynasty, having won multiple Super Bowls and consecutive AFC Championships. The Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots, New York Giants, and San Francisco 49ers share the record for most Super Bowl wins (5 - 6 each).
