What is the DoQuizzes AI Quiz Generator?

The AI Quiz Generator is a built-in tool that reads any text content you provide and automatically writes quiz questions, answer options, and correct answers for you. Instead of spending an hour typing questions one by one, you paste your notes or upload a document and have a complete quiz ready in under 30 seconds.

It is powered by a large language model trained on a broad range of academic and general knowledge. It understands context, identifies key facts, and structures questions at an appropriate difficulty level for the content it reads.

How does the AI Quiz Generator work?

The process has three steps:

  1. You provide content - paste raw text, upload a PDF or Word document, or upload a photo of printed material.
  2. The AI reads and extracts key information - it identifies facts, definitions, dates, processes, and relationships worth testing.
  3. It writes the questions - each question is generated with a prompt, a correct answer, and (for multiple choice) three plausible distractors. The full quiz is saved to your account automatically.

What input formats are supported?

The AI Quiz Generator accepts three types of input, each accessed through its own tab:

  • Text Input - paste any plain text up to 8,000 characters. This works well for copied notes, article excerpts, Wikipedia summaries, or anything you can copy and paste from your browser or word processor.
  • Document Upload - upload a PDF, DOCX, or TXT file up to 10 MB. The generator extracts the text automatically. Scanned PDFs that are pure images (no embedded text) are not supported in this mode - use Image Upload instead.
  • Image Upload - upload a JPG, PNG, WEBP, or GIF image up to 10 MB. This is useful for textbook pages, handwritten notes, diagrams, or any printed material you have photographed. The AI reads the image and generates questions from the visible text and content.

Can I generate a quiz from a PDF?

Yes. Switch to the Document Upload tab on the AI Quiz Generator page and upload your PDF. The tool extracts the text from the PDF and uses it as the source material. The first 12,000 characters of extracted text are processed, so very long documents will be summarised from the opening sections. For a long textbook chapter, consider copying only the relevant section and using Text Input instead.

Can I generate a quiz from a Word document?

Yes. DOCX files are supported via the Document Upload tab. DOC files (the older Microsoft Word format) are also accepted. Upload your file, optionally add a topic hint to focus the AI on a specific section, then click Generate Quiz with AI.

Can I take a photo of my textbook and generate questions from it?

Yes. Use the Image Upload tab and upload a clear photo of the page. Make sure the text is legible and not at a steep angle. The AI will read the text in the image and generate questions from it, just as it would from a typed document. This is particularly useful for printed handouts or pages that you cannot easily copy as text.

What question types can the AI generate?

Before clicking Generate, choose your preferred question type in the Settings section:

  • Multiple Choice (4 options) - each question has one correct answer and three incorrect distractors. This is the default and works well for all content types.
  • True / False - each question is a statement that is either correct or incorrect. Good for factual content and definitions.
  • Short Answer - players type the answer from memory. Best for quizzes where the exact answer is a single word or short phrase.

How many questions can I generate at once?

You can request between 3 and 20 questions per generation. Use the slider in the Settings section to choose. The AI will generate up to the number you set, but may produce fewer if the source content does not contain enough distinct testable facts. For a full 20-question quiz, aim to provide at least 600-800 words of source material.

Can I add a topic hint?

Yes. The optional Topic hint field lets you steer the AI toward a specific subject within your content. For example, if you upload a full chapter but only want questions about the French Revolution, type "Focus on the French Revolution section" in the hint field. You can also use the topic field on its own without any pasted text or file - the AI will generate questions from its general knowledge about that topic.

How accurate are AI-generated questions?

When working from content you provide (text, document, or image), the AI is generating questions directly from that material, so accuracy is generally high. However, you should always review the generated questions before publishing. The AI can occasionally misread ambiguous text, produce questions that have more than one defensible answer, or write distractors that are too obvious. Use the quiz editor after generation to correct anything that needs adjustment.

When generating from a topic hint only (no source content), the AI draws on its training data. Factual questions about well-documented topics are usually accurate, but obscure or rapidly changing subjects carry more risk of error. Always verify answers for topic-only generations before making the quiz public.

Can I edit the quiz after it is generated?

Yes. Generated quizzes are saved as Drafts in your Quiz Drafts. From there you can open the full question editor to add, remove, or rewrite any question, change the correct answer, adjust answer options, and add images. You can also change the quiz title, description, category, and visibility settings before publishing.

What languages are supported?

The AI Quiz Generator supports a range of languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Polish, and several others. Select your language from the dropdown in the Settings section before generating. Note that accuracy may vary between languages - English produces the most consistently reliable output.

Is there a daily limit?

Each registered account can generate 1 AI quiz per day for free. Your limit resets at midnight UTC. The remaining count for the day is shown at the top of the AI Quiz Generator page. If you reach your limit, you can still create quizzes manually using Quiz Lab.

Is my uploaded content kept private?

Files and text you upload to the AI Quiz Generator are used only to generate your quiz and are not stored permanently or shared with other users. Generated quizzes are saved to your account as Drafts and remain private until you explicitly publish them. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Tip: For the best results, paste or upload focused content rather than an entire textbook. A single well-defined topic (one chapter, one lecture, one article) produces sharper, more useful questions than a broad collection of mixed material.
