What is an online leaderboard?
A leaderboard is a ranked list of players ordered by a specific metric. On DoQuizzes, that is either total XP for the global leaderboard, or your highest score on a specific quiz for per-quiz rankings. Leaderboards create competition, give players goals to work toward, and let you see how you compare against others worldwide. View the current standings at Leaderboards.
How does a leaderboard work on DoQuizzes?
DoQuizzes has two types of leaderboards:
- Global Leaderboard - ranks every registered player by total XP. Updated in real time. Visible at Leaderboards.
- Per-Quiz Leaderboard - each quiz shows the top scores for that specific quiz. Visible on every quiz detail page. Only your highest attempt counts toward your rank on that quiz.
How do I climb the leaderboard?
- Play consistently - volume is the biggest driver of XP accumulation. Use Random Quiz or browse New Quizzes daily to discover fresh content.
- Maintain a daily streak - streak multipliers significantly increase your XP per session. Even one quiz per day keeps your streak alive.
- Aim for high accuracy - more correct answers per quiz means more XP. See How to Win at Trivia for technique tips.
- Try new quizzes - first-play bonuses on quizzes you have never attempted add up quickly. Browse all categories to find unexplored topics.
- Focus on longer quizzes - more questions means more XP per completion. Table quizzes often pack in the most questions per session.
- Unlock achievements - each achievement badge awards bonus XP on top of your regular earnings.
What is the psychology behind leaderboards?
Leaderboards work because they make progress visible and social. Seeing your rank move up is more motivating than watching a number increase in isolation. Research consistently shows that visible competition - especially against a small group of peers rather than thousands of strangers - drives more consistent engagement. That is why DoQuizzes includes per-quiz leaderboards alongside the global one: beating the top score on a specific Sports or Geography quiz you love is often more motivating than climbing the global all-time list.
Can I remove myself from the leaderboard?
Yes. Go to your account settings and disable leaderboard visibility. Your scores will still be tracked privately, but your username will not appear in any public rankings.
What are the drawbacks of leaderboards?
Highly competitive leaderboards can discourage newer players who feel they cannot compete with long-term users. DoQuizzes addresses this with monthly resets on the competitive leaderboard, so every month starts fresh. This gives newer players a genuine chance to rank highly based on recent performance. New players are also encouraged to focus on per-quiz leaderboards first - it is far easier to top the board for a niche quiz in a category you know deeply than to compete with all-time XP totals.
How do multiplayer results affect leaderboards?
Scores earned in Multiplayer sessions contribute to your XP total and therefore affect your global leaderboard position. The per-quiz leaderboard for any quiz can also be topped via a multiplayer session if your score in that session is your personal best. See How Quiz Scoring Works for a full breakdown of how points are tallied.
